1.1. Device Program
Aligned with our Mission, “to empower our students to pursue their passion for learning, lead lives of integrity, and create socially responsible solutions,” and our Core Values, Colegio Roosevelt is committed to equipping our students with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
Students engage with technology in meaningful, age-appropriate ways that enhance—not replace—hands-on learning, social interaction, and exploration. Faculty carefully integrate technology when it meaningfully transforms and redefines the learning experience, deepening student understanding and engagement. Devices are not used for passive consumption or entertainment. We recognize the importance of balanced technology use, especially in the early years.
- Students in EC3 and EC4 benefit from an unplugged day at school
- Students in K - G3 have access to a school-assigned Apple iPad
- Students in G4 - G5 have access to a school-assigned Apple MacBook
- Students in G6 - G12 bring their own laptops on a daily basis (BYOL program)
Generative AI
Our Commitment to Ethical, Safe, and Empowering Use of AI
At Colegio Roosevelt, we recognize that Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Generative AI, is transforming the world in powerful ways. We believe it can enhance learning, creativity, and efficiency when used responsibly. Our goal is to help students develop the skills they need to use AI thoughtfully, ethically, and confidently.
How We Use AI at Roosevelt
• AI is used to support learning, creativity, and productivity.
• Students and educators are encouraged to explore AI tools that help with idea generation, research support, organization, and creative projects.
• AI never replaces critical thinking, decision-making, or authentic student work.
Ethical and Responsible Use
We emphasize digital citizenship and responsible behavior when using AI. This includes:
• Academic honesty: AI should not be used to plagiarize, complete assignments dishonestly, or misrepresent someone’s work.
• Transparency: When students use AI to support an assignment, they must cite it appropriately and follow classroom guidelines.
• Respectful use: AI cannot be used to generate harmful, inappropriate, or misleading content.
• No deception: Creating deepfakes, false identities, fake news, manipulated images/videos, or any content intended to deceive others is strictly prohibited.
Privacy and Security
We protect the privacy of our students and community:
• No personal information (PII) or confidential school data may be entered into AI tools.
• AI tools must be used within safe, vetted platforms that adhere to data protection standards.
• Faculty guide and monitor the use of AI to ensure safety and compliance.
DigCit

Colegio Roosevelt is proud to be recognized as a Common Sense Media School. This honor reflects our continued commitment to promoting strong digital citizenship and guiding our students to navigate the online world responsibly and ethically. In today’s rapidly evolving digital age, it is critical to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to thrive safely and successfully.
This recognition also underscores the importance of digital wellness and digital leadership—helping our students and entire community develop healthy online habits, make informed decisions, and use technology in ways that uplift themselves and others. By cultivating balance, empathy, and responsibility, we empower our learners to lead with integrity in every digital space.
We extend our gratitude to our dedicated educators for their essential role in achieving this milestone, and we look forward to continuing our work in preparing our students for a bright, safe, and empowered digital future.
What is digital wellness?
Digital wellness refers to maintaining a healthy and balanced relationship with technology. This includes making thoughtful choices about screen time, understanding online safety, managing distractions, and using digital tools in ways that support learning, well-being, and positive relationships.
At Colegio Roosevelt, we encourage students to develop habits that allow them to engage responsibly online while staying grounded, focused, and safe.
What should parents do at home to support digital wellness?
Parents play an essential role in helping students build healthy digital habits. Here are a few effective ways to support digital wellness at home:
- Model balanced tech use with your own devices.
- Create device-free times/zones, such as mealtimes and bedtime.
- Talk openly about online experiences and responsible behavior.
- Set age-appropriate expectations for apps, games, and social media.
- Encourage offline activities to maintain balance.
- Keep devices in common areas for younger students.
- Review privacy and safety settings regularly.
- Reinforce the school’s Digital Citizenship Agreements for consistency.

What is the “Disconnect to Connect” initiative at Colegio Roosevelt?
Disconnect to Connect is a school-wide initiative designed to reduce distractions, promote digital wellness, and help students stay fully present during the school day. Research, and our own observations, show that when students take a break from cell phones and wearables, they are better able to focus on learning, engage with peers, and connect meaningfully with their school community.
To support this, we have successfully implemented Yondr pouches in Middle and High School:
- Students place their cell phones and wearables in a personal Yondr pouch upon arrival.
- The pouch locks magnetically and remains with the student throughout the day.
- Devices are unlocked only at dismissal using unlocking stations.
Disconnect to Connect reinforces our commitment to digital wellness and supports students in developing healthy habits that will benefit them well beyond their school years.
ISTE 标准

Colegio Roosevelt has followed the ISTE organization since its origins in the late 1990s. Currently, several of our faculty members are ISTE Certified Educators. The ISTE Standards for Students are integrated into the Elementary curriculum and are also a key component of our Middle and High School Design curriculum.
What are the ISTE Standards for Students?
The ISTE Standards for Students describe the essential skills and mindsets learners need to thrive in a digital world. They focus on empowering students to be responsible, creative, critical thinkers who use technology in meaningful, ethical, and innovative ways.
- Video: Introducing the ISTE Standards for Students
- Learn more: ISTE recently updated these standards to reflect today’s digital landscape. You can read about the latest updates here.
Why are the ISTE Standards important?
The ISTE Standards provide a globally recognized framework that helps schools integrate technology in ways that enhance learning. By following these standards, educators design student-centered experiences that build essential digital skills—including problem-solving, digital citizenship, creativity, and collaboration.
Ultimately, the ISTE Standards help prepare students to use technology safely, responsibly, and effectively both in school and throughout their lives. ©AFAeducation.
